Village and Culture
1. Get lost in the streets of Mojácar Pueblo's old town
Mojácar Pueblo is a labyrinth of narrow streets, whitewashed houses and bougainvillea cascading from balconies. There is no correct route: the beauty is in wandering aimlessly and discovering hidden squares, Moorish archways and corners with sea views.
Allow at least two hours. Wear comfortable shoes because the hills are steep. Early morning or sunset is the best time, avoiding the midday heat.
2. Drink from the Fuente Mora
The Fuente Mora has 12 spouts and dates back to the 12th century. Legend says that whoever drinks from it will return to Mojácar. Beyond the legend, this is the spot where the peaceful surrender of the village to the Catholic Monarchs was negotiated in 1488. Information panels explain the full history.
It is at the foot of the village, accessible on foot from anywhere in Mojácar Pueblo. Free entry.
3. Climb to the Mirador del Castillo
The highest point of Mojácar Pueblo at 175 metres above sea level. From here you get 360-degree views: the Mediterranean, the mountains, the white village at your feet and the coastline stretching into the distance.
The best time is at sunset. Arrive 20 minutes before sundown and stay until the village lights come on. Free access and the best viewpoint in the entire area.
4. Spot Indalos on the village facades
The Indalo is a Neolithic symbol of protection: a human figure with outstretched arms holding an arch. You will find it painted on doors, walls and facades throughout Mojácar Pueblo. Each one is different, and searching for them becomes a game, especially if you are travelling with children.
The original is in the cave paintings at Cueva de los Letreros in Vélez Blanco, about an hour from Mojácar.
5. Experience Moors and Christians or the Night of the Candles
The Moors and Christians festival runs from 11 to 14 June 2026. Parades, historical re-enactments and the entire village out on the streets for four days.
If you visit in September, the Night of the Candles transforms Mojácar Pueblo with over 7,000 candles. The street lighting is switched off and the village is illuminated only by flames. Over 15,000 people attend each year. Book accommodation well in advance for both events.

One of the best water experiences in Mojácar. The Torre del Pirulico is an ancient watchtower perched on a cliff, and reaching it by kayak along the coast is spectacular. Candalix Beach Kayaks organises the trips.

8. Snorkelling in the virgin coves
The coves south of Mojácar have crystal-clear water and rocky seabeds where you can spot starfish, sea urchins and octopus without going far from shore. All you need is a mask and snorkel.
The best areas are the coves between El Cantal and Macenas. Go early to have the coves to yourself.
9. Jet ski excursion to Playa de los Muertos

12. Playa de los Muertos

14. La Mena-Macenas trail
A 10-kilometre circular trail taking about 3 hours. It follows a 19th-century mining route running parallel to the sea. The landscape combines arid mountains with constant coastal views.
Low to medium difficulty. Bring water and sun protection. Avoid midday in summer. The starting point is signposted on the coves road.
15. Buggy 4x4 route along the coast
Aventura Motor organises routes in Polaris buggies along dirt tracks following the coast. From 182 euros for two people.
No special licence needed. The routes pass through areas that cannot be reached by a normal car. It is a different way to see the coastline and the dry riverbeds around Mojácar.
