Mojácar Playa's Beach Bars: The Complete Guide
In Mojácar, a chiringuito is not just a place to eat. It is where things happen. Where you decide if the afternoon will be paella with your feet in the sand or cocktails watching the sunset. Where a quiet lunch turns into a lingering afternoon that stretches until eight. Where a Saturday that started with a midday beer ends with dancing.
📑 Table of contents
Mojácar Playa stretches over 7 kilometres of coastline and along it you will find beach bars for every taste: from a gourmet spot with 18 types of rice to a remote cove with no phone signal where they only take cash. This guide organises them by what you are actually looking for when you arrive at the beach.
For Serious Eating: The Gastronomic Chiringuitos
If you want to sit down for a proper meal with your feet in the sand, these deliver.
Kontiki
The gourmet chiringuito of Mojácar. Operating since 1994 on Playa Villazar, right opposite the Parador, it has evolved to offer a menu blending Mediterranean cuisine with Nikkei influences: ceviches, sashimi and 18 different types of rice. This is not your typical fried-fish-and-beer beach bar.
The daily set menu is 15 euros, paella around 22 euros per person. There are sun loungers on the sand for after your meal. Open 12:00 to 20:00. Booking in high season is essential, especially at weekends. Phone: +34 950 96 86 76.
Neptuno
The opposite end of the spectrum from Kontiki: a traditional Andalusian chiringuito. Sardines on skewers grilled in a boat on the sand, sea bream and octopus cooked over wood embers. No pretensions, good prices and the flavour of something done the same way for decades. Ideal for families and anyone seeking authenticity.
Cala Marina
On Playa Marina de la Torre, opposite Hotel Servigroup. Rated 4.3 out of 5 on TripAdvisor and considered the place for the best sardine skewers in Mojácar. The crispy octopus is another standout dish. Open 10:00 to 02:30 in high season and they host themed nights: Ibiza, salsa, bachata. A chiringuito that works as well at night as during the day.
Aku Aku
On Playa del Cantal, Aku Aku is famous for its generous seafood paellas. The atmosphere has a cultural edge: jazz fusion, live concerts and open-air cinema in summer. Hammocks and Balinese daybeds complete the experience. Phone: +34 950 47 89 81.
Tito's
Forty years of history. Tito's has grown into a complex of 4 businesses but maintains a varied menu ranging from tapas to turkey chilli, chicken tempura and fresh fish of the day. Rated 4.1 on TripAdvisor, it is one of those places where you always find something that appeals.
El Cid
On Playa del Cantal, Paseo del Mediterráneo 34. Open since 1978, it is the oldest chiringuito in Mojácar. Paellas, fresh fish and cocktails with frequent live music. Long opening hours from 10:00 to 03:00. With a 4.2 on Google and nearly 1,000 reviews, it is a classic that still delivers.
For Partying: Beach Clubs and DJs
When the sun goes down, some chiringuitos change character entirely.
Mandala Beach Club
Avenida del Mediterráneo 44. By day it operates as a premium beach club with good food and loungers. By night it transforms into a club with international DJs, laser shows and smoke machines until sunrise. Night entry costs 12 euros and includes 2 drinks if you arrive before 2am. Bottles from 260 euros for groups. A note: some reviews report overcrowding on peak nights and inconsistent door policy.
Maui Beach
Thirty years of history in Mojácar. During the day it offers sun loungers at 10 euros per day and Balinese daybeds at 30 euros, with a VIP area at 150 euros for 4 to 6 people including a bottle and 12 soft drinks. The night is different: Saturdays feature dinner shows from 40 euros with drag performances and comedy. Resident DJ Moree Mk. Fridays and Saturdays open until 03:00.
For Sunset: The Best Views
Mojácar faces east, so the sun does not set over the sea. But the sky turns orange and pink over the mountains and the light on the water is spectacular. These chiringuitos know it and make the most of it.

Hola Ola
Paseo del Mediterráneo 62-D. Specifically promoted as the sunset spot, and it delivers. Live music, fresh juices, smoothies and cocktails. Relaxed atmosphere without the pretensions of the pricier beach clubs.
Lua Mojácar
The most premium and elegant on the beach. Sun loungers at 5 euros per day that include a beer or glass of wine. Live music on Sundays. The kitchen is high quality and also the most expensive in Mojácar, but you notice the level. For a special occasion or simply treating yourself.
Off the Beaten Track: Coves and Quiet
If you want a genuine digital detox, you need to leave the promenade.
Chiringuito Macenas
At the far south end, 3 kilometres down a dirt track next to the Macenas watchtower. No mobile signal, no electricity. Cash only. Eucalyptus trees, silence and the Mediterranean. Reviews on the food are polarised, but nobody goes to Macenas for the menu: you go for the total disconnection.
Chiringuito Manaca
In Cala del Sombrerico. The building was constructed in 1972 as a set for the filming of "Treasure Island" with Orson Welles. Rustic, pet-friendly, cash only and no phone signal. Around 15 euros per person. A place with history and a charm that cannot be manufactured.
New Arrivals
Bocaina Beach Club
Rated 4.3 on TripAdvisor, Bocaina stands out for being open all year round, which is unusual in Mojácar. In summer it has a DJ on the terrace in the afternoons. Good value for money for a beach club.
Amante
A recent opening with contemporary Mediterranean cuisine and live shows. Too early to judge in depth, but the concept is interesting and fills a gap in Mojácar's offering.
Practical Information
Season
Most chiringuitos open before Easter and close on 31 October. Exceptions like Bocaina operate all year. In high season, July and August, opening hours extend until midnight or later.
Sun Lounger and VIP Prices
Sun loungers range from 5 to 10 euros per day depending on the chiringuito. Balinese daybeds are around 30 euros. VIP areas like the one at Maui Beach reach 150 euros for groups of 4 to 6 people with a bottle included.
Reservations
In July and August, booking is almost essential for the gastronomic chiringuitos at lunchtime. Kontiki fills up quickly at weekends. On weekdays or outside peak hours, it is usually unnecessary.
Cash vs. Card
Chiringuitos on the promenade accept cards without issue. Those in the coves, Macenas and Manaca, are cash only. Bring notes if you are heading to the southern coves.
Dress Code
There is none. Swimwear, sarong, flip-flops. The more premium beach clubs might ask you to put on a shirt to sit down for a meal, but nothing more.
