Mojácar with Kids: Complete Family Holiday Guide 2026

24 March 2026

Why Mojácar Is the Family Destination You Are Looking For

Mojácar combines something hard to find on the Spanish coast: Blue Flag beaches with safe bathing, over 320 days of sunshine per year and a manageable size where children can roam freely. There is no extreme overcrowding, the pace is relaxed and the range of family activities has grown considerably in recent years.

📑 Table of contents

From beaches with breakwaters creating sheltered swimming zones to a water park 15 minutes away, boat trips from Garrucha and the legendary Oasys MiniHollywood in the Tabernas Desert. This guide covers everything you need to organise a family holiday without leaving anything to chance.

The Best Beaches for Families with Children

Marina de la Torre Beach: Number One for Families

If you had to choose just one beach, this is it. Marina de la Torre holds Blue Flag status, has fine sand and a very gentle slope allowing children to splash safely. The breakwater creates a sheltered zone with minimal waves, perfect for the youngest ones.

Facilities include showers, changing rooms, a children's play area by the promenade, sun loungers and adapted access for reduced mobility. In summer there are active lifeguards and it is one of the best-equipped beaches on the entire Almería coast.

The Marina de la Torre area is also the best place to stay with a family: you have the sheltered beach on foot, recently renovated playgrounds and all services without needing a car.

Las Ventanicas Beach

Another Blue Flag beach with a family-friendly atmosphere. Las Ventanicas has shallow waters and a quieter setting than Marina de la Torre, ideal for days when you want to avoid the busier areas.

Beach Safety in Mojácar

In summer, Mojácar deploys 25 lifeguards across 7 beaches, with 2 jet skis, a zodiac, an ambulance and defibrillators. Amphibious wheelchairs are also available for people with disabilities. This is a level of coverage few towns of its size can match.

Aquavera: The Water Park 15 Minutes Away

The Aquavera water park is located in Vera, roughly 15 minutes by car from Mojácar. It is the go-to plan for the hottest days.

Activities by Age Group

For the Youngest (0-5 Years)

**Public playgrounds.** Mojácar has 9 public playgrounds, several recently renovated. The best ones are at Marina de la Torre, El Palmeral and Cueva del Lobo. They are free and well maintained.

**Tourist train.** It climbs from Mojácar Playa up to the old village with panoramic views of the entire coastline. Young children love the ride and it saves you pushing a buggy uphill.

**Marina de la Torre Beach.** The sheltered zone behind the breakwater and the gentle slope make it the ideal beach for babies and toddlers.

**Go-karts in Garrucha.** A few minutes from Mojácar, Karting Garrucha accepts children from age 3. It has a 160-metre circuit for beginners and a 400-metre circuit for more experienced drivers. Prices range from €8 to €10 per session. There are also trampolines and an arcade area.

**Albatross Mini Golf.** An 18-hole course, pet friendly, ideal for an easy family afternoon.

**Boat trips from Garrucha.** Several options: - **Piripiol:** 2-hour trip with a swimming stop. €60 for adults, €50 for children under 12. - **DivSail:** small groups of maximum 9 people with snacks included. - Glass-bottom boats are also available, perfect for younger children who want to see the seabed without getting wet.

**Aquavera.** The children's area at the water park is designed for this age range. Combined with the gentler slides, it fills a whole day.

For Preteens and Teenagers (12+)

**Oasys MiniHollywood (Tabernas).** Approximately one hour by car, in the only desert in Europe. This Wild West theme park offers gunfighter and Can-Can shows, a zoo with over 800 animals, train rides, horse and donkey riding, the Fun Barn and a swimming pool in high season.

High season hours: 10:00 to 19:00. Dedicate the full day and leave early to avoid the Tabernas Desert heat.

**Kayaking and paddleboarding.** Several beach schools offer adapted lessons. From around 7-8 years old, children can get on a board with an instructor. Morning sessions are best, when the sea is calm.

**Long go-kart circuit.** The 400-metre circuit at Karting Garrucha is perfect for teenagers looking for a bit of adrenaline.

Where to Eat with Children

In Mojácar, children are welcome at virtually every restaurant. It is not like some other European countries where you need to seek out specific places.

**Beach chiringuitos** are the most practical option: children eat and head back to the sand while you finish in peace. Most have a children's menu or will prepare simple dishes off-menu.

**El Cantal promenade:** spacious terraces where children have room to move around.

**Mojácar Pueblo:** pizzerias and restaurants with terraces on the square work well with families.

Remember Spanish mealtimes: lunch between 2pm and 3:30pm, dinner from 9pm. Many restaurants open the kitchen at 8pm in summer if your children eat earlier.

Practical Tips for Families

Sun Protection

The Almería sun is intense from June to September. Factor 50+ renewed every two hours, peaked caps, UV shirts for the youngest and plenty of water. Between noon and 4pm, stick to shade, the pool or indoors.

Rainy Days (Which Almost Never Happen)

With over 320 days of sunshine per year, the chance of rain is minimal. But if it does: Karting Garrucha has an indoor arcade and bowling area. It is also a good time to head up to Mojácar Pueblo and wander its narrow streets, hunt for the Indalo painted on doors and walls (children turn it into a treasure hunt) and have a drink in the square.

Best Area to Stay

Marina de la Torre, without question. You have the beach sheltered by the breakwater, playgrounds just metres away, supermarkets, restaurants and a pharmacy. Everything on foot, no car needed.

Pharmacies and Emergencies

There are pharmacies in Mojácar Playa and the village with children's products. The health centre is in the village area and the nearest hospital is in Huercal-Overa, about 30 minutes away. For emergencies: 112, available 24 hours.

What to Pack in the Beach Bag

Sun cream, cold water, fruit, water shoes, sand toys, snorkelling goggles for older children, your own parasol and a couple of extra towels.

The Best Time to Visit with Children

June and September are the ideal months. The water is already warm, there are fewer people than in July and August, prices are lower and all activities are up and running. If you can only come in August, book well in advance and avoid bank holiday weekends.
